Opportunity

Raise FIND’s profile and highlight their groundbreaking catalytic work in HIV outbreak prevention with major actors in the field. The Global Symposium, convened by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), was organized in the run-up to the 2015 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) in Seattle. It brought together over 100 leaders in incidence assay research, public health agencies, international organizations (including WHO and UNAIDS) and leading academia (including Harvard’s School of Public Health and the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine). Thought leaders, researchers and policymakers discussed the development of change-making assay-based methods of HIV incidence testing and provided the latest data on this critical subject to enable new and more targeted ways to prevent the spread of the pandemic.  

Impact

• Provided strategic guidance to FIND on its collaboration with Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to convene key partners at the Global Symposium to align fragmented global research, the development of HIV incidence diagnostic tools and guidance for their use
• Raised awareness of currently available game-changing diagnostics and research to enable effective collaborations and accelerate prevention of outbreaks
• Identified key stakeholders to further align resources and capabilities for accelerated collective action and joined funding
