Position IFPW as a major player in global health, highlighting their role in improving newborn health in developing countries. The high-level Every Women Every Child (EWEC) luncheon was hosted by the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon during the annual UN General Assembly. EWEC is an unprecedented global movement that mobilizes financial and political commitments with actionable projects by governments, the UN, multilaterals, the private sector and civil society to address major health challenges faced by women, children and adolescents. High-level innovators from the public and private sector, including Merck, Johnson & Johnson, Nike, Philips, General Electric and others, announced their commitments to advance the Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health at this pivotal event.  

Impact

• Positioned IFPW and the pharmaceutical wholesale industry as a major player in global health with government leaders at the high-level United Nations platform
• Designed a major new commitment to newborn health and the Every Woman Every Child global movement, announced by IFPW President Mark Parrish to improve access to life-saving medicines and other health related commodities
• Launched a new taskforce, the IFPW’s Global Access to Medicines Team, to provide technical advice to governments and global health partners and to prioritize countries where maternal and newborn deaths are the highest
• Accelerated the implementation of IFPW’s first ever strategy in global health, also developed by GD.
