First of its kind roundtable brings together key stakeholders in Romania

Fondation Botnar, an innovative philanthropic foundation based in Switzerland, established with the core purpose to create better tomorrow for all children by investing in emerging solutions today. The foundation finances collaborative projects and sustainable solutions in Artificial Intelligence for child health and wellbeing, cities fit for children, learning hubs and entrepreneurship, while building on the Botnar legacy.

Opportunity

Romania’s healthcare system is one of the weakest in Europe, with a significant shortage of doctors and nurses which can be overcome through new partnerships and use of digital technologies based. Barbara Bulc has been engaged as a collaboration strategist and facilitator to help incubate change by convening key public and private stakeholders in an open dialogue in Romania.  We identified key stakeholders using smart mapping process and co- designed a roundtable “Promoting the use of digital technologies in Romania to increase access to health services for vulnerable and disadvantaged populations” together with the leadership of Fondation Botnar, UNICEF Romania and Impact Hub Bucharest. The roundtable and working group discussions, hosted by Razvan Vulcanescu, President of the National Health Insurance House (CNAS), brought together key actors from the Ministry of Health, health professional alliances, patient organizations, NGOs, foundations, academia, businesses, payors and international organizations, identifying collectively priority areas for action.

Impact

  • Brought together 40 key stakeholders from all sectors in Romania
  • Shared and presented successful digital technology use cases
  • Identified priority areas for collective action, including potential revision of frameworks and incentives, review practice guidelines for primary medicine services and digital literacy aligned with the Romania National Health Strategy 2014-2020
  • Identified working groups for continuation in 2019
