Barbara Bulc is the founder and president of Global Development. She has over 20 years of leadership and advisory experience in international development, global health, diplomacy and the pharmaceutical industry, working with the private sector, governments, international organization and NGOs in Europe, the U.S, Africa and Asia.
Mrs. Bulc has been a driving force in catalyzing and developing innovative and transformative public-private partnerships in development to improve people’s lives. She was a Senior Advisor and a founding management team member at the President Bill Clinton Foundation in New York where she focused on developing innovative large scale sustainable partnerships with governments, industry, international organizations and financing institutions in emerging economies to reduce poverty. She was instrumental in developing the Clinton Foundation’s HIV/AIDS Initiative, which provides access to affordable and equitable healthcare to over 60 countries.
She established and led Ambassador Richard Holbrooke’s European office of the Global Business Coalition in Geneva, mobilizing the power of business and Fortune 500 corporations in the global fight against poverty. In this role Mrs. Bulc served as a representative of the private sector on various international boards, including the Global Fund, a multibillion-dollar innovative public-private partnerships.
Preceding her career in international development, Mrs. Bulc was the CEO of KRKA Pharmaceuticals U.S. in New York, one of the leading European generics companies. She worked in various positions with Novartis (Switzerland), Knoll, and BASF (Germany). Mrs. Bulc was elected to the Board of Directors of the U.S. Generic Pharmaceutical Industry Association (GPhA) and served on the Board of Bionor Immuno (Norway).
She is a founding member of a pan-African organization, Friends of the Global Fund, Africa and a member of the United Nations' Innovation Working Group, a group that drives innovation and change in support of the UN Secretary General’s transformational Every Woman Every Child movement.
Mrs. Bulc holds graduate degrees in chemistry and management from Ljubljana University in Slovenia and Columbia University Business School in New York. She speaks English, French, German, Slovene and Serbo-Croatian. She was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and has lived and worked in New York, the U.S. and in several other countries. She currently lives in Geneva, Switzerland.
